Swimming and Diving Competes First Day of Tri-Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK , Pa. - The Penn State women's swimming and diving team completed the first day of competition in a tri-meet featuring Indiana, Virginia and Penn State.

In the 200 freestyle relay to lead off the meet, senior Erin Thomas (Bangor, Maine), senior Sam Palser (Chester Springs, Pa.), junior Paige Whitmire (Lederach, Pa.) and senior Katie Pulos (Rosemont, Pa.) teamed together to earn first place in the event. The group posted a time of 1:32.45 in the victory.

Over in the 200 yard IM, Penn State had a two, three, four finish in the event. Junior Merrit Krawczyk (Kingwood, Texas) finished with a time of 2:02.42 to take second place. Sophomore Chelsea Weedman (Poway, Calif.) clocked in at 2:02.72 to finish third. Junior Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) rounded out the top Penn State finishers in the event, finishing with a time of 2:03.61 to take fourth.

Krawczyk continued her strong evening, with a first place finish over in the 100 yard breastroke, earning a time of 1:02.92. Sophomore Rachel Butler (Lancaster, Pa.) took third place in the event, scoring a time of 1:04.59.

Modglin posted a time of 1:56 over in the 200 yard backstroke, to earn first place. In the next event, the 100 yard freestyle, Palser posted a time of 50.86 seconds to earn third place.

Penn State wraps up action against Indiana and Virginia at the McCoy Natatorium tomorrow at 11 a.m.
