UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's swimming and diving team completed the second day of competition in a tri-meet featuring Indiana, Virginia and Penn State on Saturday. For the weekend, PSU was defeated by Virginia, 196-156. Indiana also edged the Nittany Lions, 191-162.

Action on the day started in the 200 medley relay. Penn State senior Sam Palser (Chester Springs, Pa.), junior Paige Whitmire (Lederach, Pa.), junior Merrit Krawczyk (Kingwood, Texas) and sophomore Mackenzie Powers (Sycamore, Ill.) teamed up to earn second place in the event. The quad posted a time of 1:43.32. Meanwhile, in the 50 freestyle, Palser and Whitmire came out and earned a tied second place finish with a time of 23.47 seconds.

Krawczyk took home the title in the 200 breaststroke, earning a time of 2:16.28. Powers also continued her strong day, finishing the 100 butterfly in 55.48 seconds, which was also good for first place.

Over in the 100 backstroke, junior Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) posted a solid third place finish, as she clocked a time of 56. 23 seconds. Modglin later on in the day placed second in the 400 IM, where she posted a time of 4:19.93. She clipped Krawczyk, who finished in third with a final time of 4:20.76.

In the final swimming event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay, Palser, Whitmire, senior Katie Pulos (Rosemont, Pa.) and senior Erin Thomas (Bangor, Maine) finished in second place, clocking a time of 3:22.34.

Penn State will turn next to the Ohio State Invitational, which is set to begin on Dec. 2.
