Nittany Lion Fencers Head to Temple Open

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After a weekend off, the Penn State fencers are back in action this weekend. The men's team will be taking part in the Temple Open this Sun, Nov. 6. Action will begin at 8 a.m.

Two weeks ago the fencers took part in the PS Lion/Junior Open giving each fencer the opportunity to showcase his abilities. Team Captain Aleksander Ochocki had a solid performance taking first place in the men's saber. Ochocki, a three-time All-American is in his second year serving as captain for the team. Newcomer David Gomez Tanamachi had a standout performance taking first in the men's foil. The freshman has proved to be a strong force and will one to keep an eye on in the upcoming season.

The Nittany Lions are looking to make a strong run for the National Title this season. After two consecutive years on top, in 2009 and 2010, they fell to second last year. Coach Emmanuil Kaidanov has put together a solid team with much promise in hopes of once again being National Champions.

The Temple Open will serve the Nittany Lions their first round of solid competition this season. The competitors for this weekend have not yet been released.
