AUBURN, Ala. - The Penn State women's swimming & diving team began the first day of a two-day road trip with a 138.5-99.5 loss to the Auburn Tigers on Friday evening. Despite the dual meet loss, Penn State had some very strong finishes, taking first place in four events.
The Nittany Lions garnered wins in the 200 freestyle relay, the 200 breastroke, the 200 backstroke and the 200 butterfly. The 200 freestyle relay team was comprised of junior Paige Whitmire (Lederach, Pa.), senior Erin Thomas (Bangor, Maine), senior Sam Palser (Chester Springs, Pa.) and senior Kristen Rodman (Lansdale, Pa.). They earned Penn State 11 points for clocking a time of 1:34.23.
Over in the 200 breastroke, junior Merritt Krawczyk (Kingwood, Texas) earned first place, clocking in at 2:19.42 to earn nine points for Penn State. This was the first time that Krawczyk participated in the event this season.
Junior Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) was great again, as he clipped Auburn's Emily Bos in the 200 backstroke, earning a time of 1:57.02, an NCAA "B" standard. Modglin clipped her previous high from the West Virginia meet earlier this season.
Over in the 200 butterfly sophomore Chelsea Weedman (Poway, Calif.) took home the 200 butterfly for the second week in a row, scoring a time of 2:00.77, which beats her time from two weeks ago.
Penn State will return to action on Saturday as it heads to Georgia Tech. The meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
