Penn State Fencers to Return to Action This Weekend

Dec. 1, 2011

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After a week off the Penn State fencers will be back in action this weekend. The Nittany Lions will host a one-day event on Dec. 3, in the White Building. They will welcome fencers from Harvard, UNC, Princeton, Sacred Heart, NYU and Vassar.

Most recently the team competed in the Garret Open. In its 40th year here at Penn State the Garret offered the team their first dose of stiff competition. Both the men's and women's teams faired well walking away with two individual first place finishes. Senior captain Aleksander Ochocki took first in the men's saber while fellow captain Margherita Guzzi Vincenti placed first in the women's epee.

The Nittany Lions have had a sequence of strong performances this season. As their schedule gets into full swing each fencer is continuing to build and perfect their skills in hopes of helping the team take back the national title they won in 2010.

This weekend's action will begin at 8 a.m. Results will be posted at the completion of the meet.
