Dec. 13, 2011
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State swimming & diving was ranked in the latest release of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll on Dec. 8. The Nittany Lions checked in with a tie for 23rd overall with fellow Big Ten member Minnesota.
Penn State (2-3) has swum an incredibly difficult schedule thus far through the first half of the season. Penn State faced off against current ranked foes Auburn (7th), Ohio State (8th), Indiana (10th), Virginia (12th) and Purdue (20th). Future matchups pit the Lions against No. 16 North Carolina (Jan. 4), fourth-ranked Michigan and Ohio State (Jan. 27-28) before the Big Ten Championships (Feb. 22-26) in Iowa City, Iowa. Seven of the 10 Big Ten teams that sponsor swimming & diving programs are ranked in the Top 25.
The Nittany Lions return to the pool during its winter training trip to Naples, Fla. when it faces North Carolina. Penn State returns north for a Jan. 14, 2012 meet against Navy at McCoy Natatorium.
