Women's Swimming Takes Second at Ohio State Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Penn State women's swimming and diving teams completed action at the Ohio State Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions had an excellent weekend, taking second place overall in the invite with 815 total points. Ohio State took first place.

Penn State had a strong showing in the 1650 freestyle as sophomore Claire Singley (Southlake, Texas) earned a time of 16:51.79 to take third place overall. In addition, freshman Megan Siverling (Havertown, Pa.), senior Rose Snyder (Harmony, Pa.), sophomore Erika Rodman (Lansdale, Pa.) and senior Emily Wolfarth (Cranberry, Pa.) also earned points for PSU in the event.

Junior Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the way for the Nittany Lions over in the 200 backstroke finals, earning a third place time of 1:56.18, a "b" standard time.

The Nittany Lions were also dominant in the 100 freestyle. Sam Palser (Chester Springs, Pa.) and junior Paige Whitmire (Lederach, Pa.) earned top six finishes. Palser took first place in the event, earning a time of 49.3 seconds, which was a "b" standard.

Penn State's top finisher in the 100 breaststroke was junior Merrit Krawczyk (Kingwood, Texas), who earned a time of 2:14.84, which was good for a fourth place finish. Sophomore Rachel Butler (Lancaster, Pa.) also had a sixth place time of 2:18.10.

In the 200 butterfly, PSU had two top eight finishers. Sophomore Chelsea Weedman (Poway, Calif.) posted a time of 1:58.47 to earn third place in the event. Sophomore Mackenzie Powers (Sycamore, Ill.) came in eighth place with a time of 2:02.57.
