Nittany Lions Return to White Building

Jan. 27, 2012

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State fencers will be in action this weekend hosting Drew, JHU, UNC, Duke, UPenn and Haverford in the White Building. Recently the Nittany Lions, both men and women, were ranked first in the USFCA College Fencing Coaches' Poll. The poll was the first of three released throughout the season.

Last weekend the team traveled to Queens, N.Y. to compete in the St. John's Invitational. The men ended the day 3-2 while the women went on to finish 2-3. Coach Kaidanov described the day as "long and hard, putting the team up against some of the top teams in the country."

They will look to redeem themselves this weekend led by team captains Margherita Guzzi-Vincenti and Aleksander Ochocki, who have continually pulled out strong performances this season. Notably, freshman Alina Antokhina has also been a dominant force for the team, as she continues her debut year with the Nittany Lions.

This season the team is looking to capture its 13th National Championship. The last time the team held the title was in 2010.
