NAPLES, Fla. - The Penn State women's swimming & diving team took part in winter training competitions this week in Florida and Georgia. The swimmers faced North Carolina in Naples. Fla., taking seven of the 11 events in a non-scored dual. The divers spent their time on Tuesday and Wednesday competing in the Bulldog Shootout hosted by the University of Georgia.
In the 400 meter relay, the Nittany Lion team of junior Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.), junior Merritt Krawczyk (Kingwood, Texas), junior Paige Whitmire (Lederach, Pa.) and sophomore Mackenzie Powers (Sycamore, Ill.) took first place over in the 400 medley relay, earning a time of 3:48.
Whitmire also earned a victory over in the 50 yard freestyle, as she earned a time of 23.86 seconds. Also, Krwawczyk was victorious in the 200 IM, clocking a time of 2:07.57.
Over in the 200 butterfly, sophomore Chelsea Weedman (Poway, Calif.) posted a time of 2:04.33, to earn her a first place finish. Modglin continued her success in the 200 backstroke, earning a time of 2:02.19 to take first place as well. Krawczyk won her third event of the day in the 200 breaststroke, earning a time of 2:21.
The Nittany Lions concluded the day with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay. Senior Sam Palser (Chester Springs, Pa.), senior Katie Pulos (Rosemont, Pa.), senior Kristen Rodman (Lansdale, Pa.) and Whitmire earned a time of 135.97 in the event.
