RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Penn State shaved 13 strokes off of its round one score and carded a 20-over-par 308 in the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue. With one round left to play, the Nittany Lions are in 15th place with a 53-over-par 629 on the par-72, 6,191-yard River Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort.
Improving by three strokes in the second round, Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) tallied 76 in the second round. The sophomore has totaled an 11-over-par 155 and jumped 13 spots to a tie for 41st place. Junior Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) matched her first round of 78 and is one stroke behind Vosters in a tie for 45th place with a 156 through two rounds.
Freshman Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) shot a 75, the lowest round by a Penn State player in the tournament so far. Elliott has carded a 14-over 158 (83-75) and jumped to a tie for 58th place following day two.
Classmates Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) and Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) rounded out the field for the Nittany Lions, carding a 160 (81-79) and 181 (93-88), respectively. Freshman Catherine Herrera (Houston, Texas) is competing as an individual and has totaled a 12-over-par 156 (76-80) and is tied for 45th place.
Georgia stayed on top through the second round and has totaled a 9-over-par score of 585 (294-291). Three players are tied for first place overall with 4-under-par scores of 140, including Georgia's Emilie Burger and Marta Silva Zamora, and Purdue's Laura Gonzalez.
The final round of play will begin Tuesday (Feb. 14) with a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. EST.
