Nittany Lions Set for USF Under Armour Showcase

TAMPA, Fla. - Penn State softball looks to snap a two-game skid when it takes on Virginia Tech and South Florida on Friday in the USF Under Armour Showcase. The Nittany Lions face the Hokies at 11:30 a.m. before meeting the Bulls at 2:00 p.m. at USF Softball Stadium. Penn State will also play Central Connecticut State, USC Upstate and Rutgers to finish Spring Break at Clearwater's Eddie C. Moore Complex.

Penn State (6-9) fell to Miami (Ohio), 5-2, on Wednesday, while Virginia Tech (13-7) defeated the Dutch National Team. USF is 15-4 this season, including a 10-1 mark at home. The Bulls are ranked 25th in the latest USA Softball poll and is receiving votes in the NFCA poll.

USC Upstate is 18-1 with a 14-1 home record this season. The Spartans haven't faced any NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, but are receiving votes in both softball polls. Central Connecticut State (2-4) won its first games of the year on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of Hartford. PSU-CCSU is slated for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, while Penn State-USC Upstate is set for 2:00 p.m.

The Nittany Lions will face an old foe in Rutgers on Sunday to close out the tournament on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. The Scarlet Knights (4-8) used to be Atlantic 10 members with Penn State back in the 1980s and early 1990s.
