UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's golf team is scheduled to participate in the Pinehurst Challenge, hosted by the College of Charleston, in Pinehurst, N.C. The 54-hole tournament will consist of two rounds on Monday (March 19) and one round on Tuesday (March 20).
"We are looking forward to our upcoming tournament at Pinehurst. It is a great venue with a competitive field of teams," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "Top-ranked North Carolina State will be our toughest competition, along with Maryland and Eastern Carolina."
The tournament will be played on the par-72, 5,993-yard Course No. 6 at the Pinehurst Resort. Penn State will be the only Big Ten team in the 17-team field. This is the first tournament for the squad since finishing in fourth place at the Rio Verde Invitational on March 11.
"The team is coming off of a great tournament and is excited to keep the momentum going," said St. Pierre.
Six Nittany Lions will make the trip. Junior Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio), sophomore Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) and freshman Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) will comprise Penn State's top-three starters.
Ransone is coming off of a season-best 10th-place finish at the Rio Verde Invitational, where she tied a career-best with a 71 in the second round. Vosters, who leads the starters with a 76.4 strokes-per-round average, and Elliott are two of just three Penn State players who have competed in all 19 rounds this season.
Junior Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Ill.) will join freshmen Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) and Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) to round out the Penn State field.
The first 36 holes will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Monday. Tuesday's round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 45 a.m.
