FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The Penn State 400 medley relay earned eighth place and All-America honors late Thursday night at the NCAA Championships. The Nittany Lions touched the wall in 3:08.77 for 22 team points. Penn State sits in 16th place after a full day of competition.

The team of Nate Savoy (Reading, Pa.), Mitch Scherer (Pottstown, Pa.), Sean Grier (Hummelstown, Pa.) and Shane Austin (Kennett Square, Pa.) picked up PSU's first All-America accolades of the meet. The team, which broke the school-record earlier in the day in a time of 3:07.62, was .46 off seventh-place Louisville.

Savoy and Austin notched their first collegiate All-America honors, while Grier and Scherer earned their second. Last season, the 200 medley relay finished ninth, winning the consolation finals, to take home honorable mention All-America status. The impressive performance garnered Penn State's first All-American 400 medley relay in program history.

The Nittany Lions kick off Friday's action at 2:00 p.m. ET with the finals taking place at 10:00 p.m. ET. Penn State will trot out its 200 medley relay team as a main highlight of the day.
