Penn State Takes Third at Hawkeye Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa - In its concluding regular-season tournament, the Penn State men's golf team finished third on the field of 11 with a three-round total of 870 (284-288-298) at the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational on Sunday.

The Lions were ousted by host Iowa who shot an 840 (282-274-284) to take first and Iowa State who took second with an 842 (283-279-280). All three teams remained in their same positions throughout the entirety of the tournament.

Junior Anthony DeGol(Hollidaysburg, Pa.) led the Nittany Lion squad for the second time this spring season, posting a 212 (67-68-77). DeGol placed tied for seventh on the individual leader board, just 10 strokes back from individual winner Nate McCoy of Iowa State.

Senior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) tied for 11th with rounds of 71-74-71 (216). Freshman Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) fell just behind McDonagh with a 217-stroke (71-73-73) finish to tie for 16th. Junior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W.Va.) carded a three-round total of 226 (76-73-77) to tie for 39th. Freshman Xander McDonald-Smithshot rounds of 75-74-79 (228) to tie for 46th.

Penn State will have two weeks to prepare for the Big Ten Championship, which will be held at the Pete Dye course located at the French Lick Resort in Indiana. The tournament will be contested April 27-29.
