UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - A duo of Nittany Lion men's golfers, seniors Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W.Va.) and Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.), are both competing in amateur events. Woodward is heading into Round 2 of the U.S. Amateur Championship, while DeGol posted two top 15 finishes in two amateur events.
Woodward is currently tied for 45th out of 311 golfersafter Round 1 in the U.S. Amateur Championship being played at the Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo. He shot a par-71 in the first round and will begin Round 2 at 12:25 p.m. MST.
DeGol has competed in two events so far this month, including the 99th Pennsylvania Amateur Championship July 30-Aug. 1 and the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship on Aug. 7-10. The Pennsylvania Amateur Championship was played at the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa. DeGol finished tied for fifth place out of 40 players with an overall score of 211 to finish just one over par. He shot a 73 in rounds one and three and a 65 in round two. In the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship at the Camelot Golf and Country Club, DeGol finished in 11th place after four rounds and was 5-under par.
