Aug. 17, 2012

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lion men's lacrosse program will be represented by five alumni on Aug. 25-26 at the Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend in Boston, Mass. Penn State has at least one alum on each team next weekend.

Pat Heim (Boston), Matt Mackrides (Chesapeake), Matt Bernier (Denver) Drew Adams and Greg Gurenlian (Long Island) will help lead their respective teams to the MLL crown beginning Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when Long Island faces top-seeded Denver. Host Boston faces Chesapeake at 4:00 p.m. in the second semifinal. The Steinfeld Cup championship game is set for Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Harvard Stadium.

Bernier played in just four games this season and returns to the Outlaws after an extended absence. The defender picked up 13 ground balls in four games. On the other side of the field, face-off specialist Greg Gurenlian and goalkeeper Drew Adams look to lead Long Island to the upset victory. Gurenlian leads the league in face-offs won (230) and ground balls (124).

In the other match-up, Pat Heim is set to lead the Cannons after his two-goal performance at Ohio on Aug .11. Heim has recorded 10 points in 12 matches as Boston competes in the playoffs for the third straight season. Last year Heim scored three times in two games as Boston won it all. Matt Mackrides has supplied Chesapeake with valuable minutes off the bench, scoring five times in nine games.
