TOLEDO, Ohio - The Penn State men's golf team dropped to eighth place in the team standings after the final round at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio Tuesday morning. Despite this drop, senior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W. Va.) and sophomore Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) placed in the top 20 in the individual rankings, both tying for 20th after 54 holes at the Inverness Club.

Jay Woodward finished the tournament with eight birdies in his 9-over-par total 222. Jens Talbert matched the play of his teammate, also tallying a total score of 222. Talbert's game included nine birdies over the course of three rounds. Senior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) jumped six spots in the individual rankings in day two, finishing tied for 27th. DeGol marked an 11-over-par 224 (76-73-75).

Freshman Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) finished tied for 43rd in the individual standings, scoring 229 (78-72-79). The last member of the squad to contribute to Penn State's team score was sophomore Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) who finished four spots behind Vartelas with his 18-over-par 231.

Freshman JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) completed his first tournament with the Nittany Lions, participating as an individual. Dornes finished tied for 40th in the standings, scoring 78, 73, 77 (228) in the three rounds, respectively. He managed five birdies in his play at the Inverness Intercollegiate.

Northwestern managed to edge the competition for a first place team finish. Their 16-over-par total of 868 was good enough to overcome the three teams that tied for second place - Florida State, Kent State, and North Texas who all finished with a team score of 879.

The Penn State men's golf team will continue their 2012-13 campaign on Sunday, Sept. 30th when they travel to Ft. Meyers, Florida for the two-day Miromar Lakes Collegiate hosted by Xavier University.
