UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team will head to Johnson City, Tenn. for the three-day, 54-hole Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, hosted by East Tennessee State University Oct. 12-14.
The Nittany Lions will be looking to continue their surge at the Blackthorn Club after their second place finish at the Cobra-PUMA Invitational two weeks ago in Ft. Meyers, Fla. The course that awaits the 13 teams in competition will be a par-72 and features 7,147 yards.
This will be the second consecutive tournament in Penn State's 2012-13 campaign where the Nittany Lions will be the sole Big Ten participant. Fierce competition will come from the four teams in the top-50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings including Wake Forest, Missouri, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. Host school ETSU will also be welcoming seven other teams to the Bank of Tennessee Intercollege, including Army, Coastal Carolina, Furman, Memphis, Pepperdine, UNC-Wilmington, and Virginia.
Senior Matthew Porter (Cortland, N.Y.) will be making his first start for the Nittany Lions this season, joined by senior teammates Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) and Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W. Va.). Sophomore Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) and freshman Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) will complete the Penn State lineup for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate this weekend.
The 54 holes will be played over the course of three days, beginning Friday morning and continuing through Sunday.
