JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Nittany Lions golf squad completed round two at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate today, dropping from 11th to 12th in the team standings with a total score of 590 through 36 holes (294-296).
Freshman Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) has had an impressive showing for Penn State in the tournament thus far. Vartelas is currently tied for 24th, shooting a 1-over-par 73 in round two giving him a total of 145 with 18 holes remaining. Sophomore Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) still trails Vartelas by one stroke with a score of 146 as he sits tied for 34th place.
Tied for 51st is senior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.), who holds a current mark of 149 (74-75). Senior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W. Va.) moved from 72nd to 68th in the standings, adding three birdies to his 154 total through two rounds. Senior Matthew Porter (Cortland, N.Y.) withdrew from round two of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate today.
Tennessee took sole possession of first place in the team standings with their 9-under-par total 567 (280-287). Grant Milner of Memphis now holds a comfortable lead among all individuals, shooting 10-under-par 134 in 36 holes at the Blackthorn Club.
