Women's Golf Named Golfweek Team of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's golf team was named the Team of the Week by Golfweek on Monday. The Nittany Lions are also ranked No. 1 on Golfstat.com based on their season statistics.

The Nittany Lions are coming off back-to-back victories, first at the Nittany Lions Invitational on Sept. 28-30. Penn State carded an 862, two under par at their home tournament to win the title and junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) won as an individual finishing eight under par. She carded a 69 in round one and two, and a 70 in round three.

Most recently, Penn State won the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. The Nittany Lions finished the tournament with a 3-over 867 team total. Ceresko and senior Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) were Penn State's top finishers tying for seventh place, both carding an even par 216. Ceresko had two rounds under par, while Ransone tied her career best with a second round 68, 4 under par-72.

The Nittany Lions are currently ranked No. 1 at Golfstat.com. Penn State is averaging 73.75 for the season and have recorded 145 birdies and three eagles so far this season. The Lions are averaging 2.56 subpar strokes per round.

Penn State has one final tournament this Fall. The Nittany Lions travel to the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. on Oct. 21-23.
