UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State field hockey forward Kelsey Amy (Sweet Valley, Pa.) has received Big Ten weekly honors for the second time this season, the conference office announced Tuesday. After recording a hat trick and an assist for seven points against then No. 11 Iowa, the senior was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. This is her fifth time earning the title and the seventh weekly award of her career.
Amy's three-goal game was the 24th multi-goal game of her career, taking the forward to 19 goals on the season. The All-American also recorded her 69th, 70th and 71st career goals against the Hawkeyes, as well as her 162nd career point. Leading the Lions with 46 points, Amy has scored in 12 of 15 contests this season and has tallied two game-winning goals.
A stellar competitor, Amy has reached several milestones in her career, including being named a NFHCA First Team All-American, a CoSIDA District II Academic All-American and a Capitol One At Large Third Team All-American last season. The forward has led the squad in scoring all four years as a Nittany Lion, and currently sits at third in both all-time goals and all-time points scored in the Penn State record book.
Besides her performance on the field, the senior has excelled in the classroom. Amy is a two-time All-Big Ten Academic, as well as a three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad. Additionally, the Sweet Valley native has earned First Team All-Big Ten twice, NFHCA All-Mideast Region First Team three times and was the 2011 Big Ten Tournament MVP.
Amy and the rest of the Lions return to action on Friday, Oct. 19, when the squad travels to No. 21 Ohio State for a 3 p.m. Big Ten matchup. The game will be televised by the Big Ten Network and available via GameTracker.
