UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's volleyball team opened its inaugural Fall Invitational with a 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22) win against Ohio State. The tournament continues tomorrow with matches at 5 and 8 p.m. at Rec Hall.
Redshirt sophomore Nick Goodell (Ambridge, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions with 15 kills, while sophomore Aaron Russell (Ellicott City, Md.) and senior Kyle Mars (Rochester, N.Y.) had nine apiece. Redshirt freshman Taylor Hammond (Mission Viejo, Calif.) dished out 43 assists and freshman Zack Parick (Woodridge, Ill.) posted 13. Goodell led the Lions in aces with four and redshirt sophomore Connor Curry (Newport Beach, Calif.) had a match-high seven digs. Mars and redshirt freshman Matt Seifert (Reading, Pa.) had two blocks each.
Penn State hit .410 against the Buckeyes and totaled 63 kills, eight aces, 34 digs and 2.5 team blocks. The Buckeyes were held to a .218 hitting percentage and recorded 32 kills, five aces, 18 digs and 13.0 team blocks.
The Penn State men's volleyball Fall Invitational continues Friday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. when Ohio State takes on Russia State. The Nittany Lions face Laval at 8 p.m. The tournament concludes on Saturday, Oct. 20 with matches at 2 and 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 per day or $10 for all four remaining matches, and can be purchased by calling 1-800-NITTANY or at the Rec Hall ticket office prior to the matches.
