2012 ITA A-A QualifyingDoubles
TULSA, Okla. - Penn State men's tennis doubles teams lost a pair of tough matches at the ITA Men's All-American Championships on Tuesday. The tournament is being hosted by the University of Tulsa. Through four days, Nittany Lions have picked up five singles wins. A few consolation matches remain for Penn State players. The Nittany Lions will send team members to the UVa Fall Classic this weekend.
In their first round Qualifying Doubles match, Tomas Hanzlik(Prague, Czech Republic) and Bryan Welnetz(Laredo, Texas) fell in a tough 9-8(1) match against Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Albert Wagner.
Russell Bader(Austin, Texas) and Roman Trkulja(Toronto, Canada) also competed in Qualifying Doubles. The duo received a first round bye. In the second round, they faced Texas-San Antonio's Martin Ayala and Diogo Casa, but dropped an 8-4 result.
In a Qualifying Singles Consolation match, Hanzlik fell 6-1, 6-3 to Clemson's Gerardo Meza. On Monday, in the first round of Qualifying Singles, Hanzlik dropped a tough match to Purdue's Aaron Dujovne 6-3, 7-6(7).
Bader and Welnetz each picked up two singles wins in the Prequalifying Round over the weekend. Bader defeated TCU's William Edward-Stein(6-2, 6-3) and Texas' Jacoby Lewis(7-6, 7-5) to advance to the third round. Welnetz knocked off Clemson's Dominique Maden(6-2, 7-5) and New Mexico State's Luis Fernando-Ramirez(6-4, 6-4).
Trkulja also picked up a singles win in a Prequalifying Consolation match over Xavier's Brandon MacDonald(6-3, 6-3).
