Penn State Finishes in Fifth Place at Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

LAS VEGAS, NV. Oct. 23, 2012- The Penn State women's golf team finished up the 2012 fall season in fifth place, shooting a round three score of 302. The Nittany Lions finished the three round tournament with a total score of 900, equaling 36 strokes over par. Penn State finished six shots behind the tournament winner and fellow Big Ten school Indiana. The Big Ten put up an impressive performance by having every team competing finish in the top eight.

Junior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) finished the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in a tie for third place and ended the year on a hot streak. Vosters carded a third round score of 75, making her tournament total 219, leaving her at three over par. Vosters finished five strokes behind the winners Ally McDonald of Mississippi State and Elizabeth Tong of Indiana. Senior Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) also continued to play impressive golf, posting her tournament low of 72 on the final day to pull her into a tie for 14th place. Ransone finished the tournament at seven over par, finishing the fall season playing her best golf.

The Nittany Lions have now completed the fall portion of their schedule, having the winter months off to practice until their spring season kicks off. The first tournament of the spring is the Briar's Creek Invitational in Charleston, S.C. This tournament begins on March 25, 2013 and lasts until March 26, 2013.
