McGloin Earns Big Ten Player of the Week Honors

Nov. 19, 2012

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; November 19, 2012- Senior quarterback Matt McGloin (Scranton) has been honored by the Big Ten Conference for his record-breaking performance in Penn State's 45-22 win over Indiana last Saturday.

McGloin was selected Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career. He also was honored after the Eastern Michigan game in 2011. He shares this week's honor with Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner.

McGloin was 22 of 32 for a career-high 395 yards vs. the Hoosiers, just four yards off Zack Mills' school record 399 yards vs. Iowa in 2002. McGloin tied his career high with four touchdown passes, all in the first half, including three to sophomore wideout Allen Robinson, who broke the school season receptions record. McGloin's 53-yard scoring strike to Robinson in the second quarter was a career-long for both players.

The former West Scanton High School standout broke four Penn State records in helping lift Coach Bill O'Brien's Nittany Lions to 7-4 overall; 5-2 in Big Ten play:

- Career Touchdown Passes (45);
- Career 200-Yard Passing games (17);
- Season Completions (251);
- Season Passing yardage (3,066)

McGloin recorded his 17th career 200-yard passing game to move into sole possession of first place on the program's all-time list, breaking a tie with Kerry Collins and Zack Mills. McGloin extended his own school record of consecutive 200-yard passing games with his ninth straight. He also extended his record with his sixth career 300-yard passing game, four of which have come this season.

For the season, McGloin is 251 of 409 (61.4) for 3,066 yards, with 23 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He also is tied for the team lead with five touchdown runs. He has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 12 consecutive regular season games, with multiple TD passes in 8 of 11 games this season.

McGloin leads the Big Ten in passing yards (279.2 ypg) by more than 40 yards per game. He also leads the conference in completions and touchdown passes.
