UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State baseball program has received seven National Letters of Intent during the early fall signing period, as announced Tuesday by head coach Robbie Wine. The newest class of Nittany Lions, six of whom are from Pennsylvania, includes three pitchers, two infielders, a catcher and an outfielder.
"The staff and I are very pleased with this year's class and the level of talent these student-athletes bring to our program," said Wine. "This was an important class for us; it's certainly exciting to sign such a quality combination of hitters and pitchers. We look forward to having them on campus next fall."
The Lions' recruiting class features two right-handed pitchers, Schuyler Bates (Ossining, NY) and Tom Mullin (Springfield), in addition to left-hander, Seth Wagner (Burnham). The four position players include infielder and outfielder Jake Pribanic (North Huntington), infielder Jim Haley (Upper Darby), catcher Steve Robinson (Reading) and outfielder Nick Riotto (Washington).
"Not only are they a skillful group of baseball players, they're quality individuals," said Wine. "We're thrilled they've joined the Penn State family. Coach Eric Folmar and Coach Jason Bell did a great job this off-season assembling such a promising group of student-athletes."
The 2013 Penn State baseball season is quickly approaching, as Penn State opens its regular season on Friday, February 15 with a three-game series at East Tennessee State. In addition to a 24-game Big Ten Conference schedule, the Lions play a very competitive non-conference schedule including games against Pittsburgh, St. Joseph's, Wright State, and Temple.
