Anderson Honored by USA Volleyball

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Former Penn State men's volleyball player Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.) was named the USA Volleyball Indoor Athlete of the Year for 2012.

Anderson, who led the Penn State men's volleyball team to the 2008 national championship before going pro, is of the member of the U.S. Men's National Team. He is the youngest member at age 25. Anderson finished the 2012 season as leading scorer on the team with 393 points. He led the team in kills with 326 and had 42 blocks. His 25 aces ranked second on the team.

Anderson made his first appearance in the Olympic Games in London. He started all 21 sets and led the team with 81 points. He totaled 69 kills with a .390 hitting efficiency, while tallying six aces and six blocks.

Anderson also competed with the U.S. Men's National Team in FIVB World League play and the NORCECA Men's Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament, where he was named "Best Spiker."
