UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lions defeated Temple in their home opener 6-1 Saturday afternoon, increasing their all-time series record against Temple to 16-0.

As they have the previous two matches this season, Penn State started off the match winning the doubles point.

The region's No. 4 ranked duo of Petra Januskova and Chelsea Utting strolled to victory defeating Carly Bohman and Minami Okajima, 8-1. The win was the 50th doubles victory of Januskova's career.

Katherine Whiteaway and Jacqueline Zuhse stayed undefeated in doubles matches on the season by besting Yana Mavrina and Alicia Doms 8-4 and capturing the doubles point for the Nittany Lions. The match between Carmen Sandor & Sarah Henderson and Rebecca Breland & Maame Ama Osei was not completed. Temple was leading 7-6 before it was called.

Chelsea Utting easily defeated Maame Ama Osei in singles action 6-0, 6-0, giving the Nittany Lions a quick 2-0 lead in the match. Devan McCluskey wrapped up her win a few minutes later defeating Bohman 6-2, 6-0.

Januskova won her second match of the day when she bested Mavrina 6-2, 6-2. Whiteaway and Zuhse also won their matches in straight sets. Whiteaway topped Okajima 6-3, 6-0, and Zuhse came from behind in her second set to win her match 6-4, 7-5.

Temple had to work hard for their point in the match, which came in the super breaker of the Single No. 4 match. After losing the first set Sandor stormed back to win the second set and force the super breaker. Temple's Alicia Doms got the victory 10-6 in the end.

Next up the Nittany Lions will head to Lexington, where they'll square off with Kentucky on Sunday. The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
