HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Nittany Lions (7-0, 0-0) defeated Marshall 6-1 on Sunday for their second win in as many days in Huntington, W.Va.
Penn State started the match just like they did yesterday winning two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The Atlantic Region's No. 4 ranked duo, Petra Januskova and Chelsea Utting, defeated the region's No. 5 team of Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova 8-5 to get their second doubles win on the weekend. Carmen Sandor and Devan McCluskey remain undefeated as a duo this season with their 8-3 victory over Karlyn Timko and Dana Oppinger.
The Nittany Lions made some changes to their singles lineup today from yesterday's win starting with moving Jacqueline Zuhse into the No. 4 spot, Sandor to the No. 5 spot and inserting Katherine Whiteaway into the singles lineup at the No. 6 spot.
McCluskey knocked off Dana Oppinger 6-3, 6-3 while Zuhse topped the region's No. 19 ranked player Ellie Ball, 6-4, 6-3. Sandor bested Kai Broomfield 6-3, 7-5 in her singles match to follow those two up.
Januskova defeated Dominika Zaprazna, the region's No. 8 ranked player, 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. Chelsea Utting also got the win in her match against Maria Voscekova, who is one spot below Utting in the regional poll, 7-6, 7-5. Marshall's lone point of the match came in the No. 6 singles match. Karlyn Timko knocked off Whiteaway in her first singles match since Kentucky, 6-1, 6-0.
The win bolsters Penn State's record to 7-0 this season with a pair of home matches coming up next weekend before their first conference match against Ohio State the following week. Next up for the Nittany Lions they will face West Virginia on Saturday before facing No. 49 VCU on Sunday.
