UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lions moved down a spot to No. 35 in the rankings this week. Petra Januskova and Chelsea Utting also both moved up in the polls as well.
Despite winning on the road against a No. 61 ranked College of Charleston team, the Nittany Lions fell one spot to No. 35 in the team poll this week. It was the Nittany Lions second win of the season against a ranked team. Their only loss came against a ranked conference opponent in Ohio State who is now ranked No. 40. The Nittany Lions also knocked off Kentucky on the road this season. Although the Wildcats were not ranked at the time, they find themselves at No. 38 in this week's poll.
Januskova moved up six spots from the last set of rankings to No. 41 in the singles poll. The jump comes after her impressive run in the past month. Januskova has not lost in seven straight matches now dating back to February 3. In that span Januskova has bested two nationally ranked opponents. Her 10-1 record is tied for the team-lead with Utting.
Januskova and Utting find themselves back in the doubles poll this week. It is the first time the duo has been in the doubles rankings this spring, having dropped out after the preseason. This is the third time the duo has been ranked, and the second-highest ranking they've held trailing only their No. 42 preseason ranking back in September.
The pair enter the rankings having won five straight matches together. Utting leads the team along with Carmen Sandor with an 8-2 record. Januskova is close behind with a 7-3 record.
The Nittany Lions will have off this weekend but travel to Bloomington, Indiana for a match with the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday March 22. The match is scheduled to start at 5p.m.
