UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., March 31, 2013- The Penn State women's golf team heads back to the Carolinas this week, this time to Pinehurst, N.C. to compete in the Pinehurst Challenge. The College of Charleston serves as tournament.
The Pinehurst Challenge is being played at the par-72, 5,993 yard, Pinehurst No. 6 course. The tournament lasts two days with a 36-hole shotgun on Monday, April 1 followed up by an 18-hole shotgun start on Tuesday, April 2. Tee times for both days are slated for 9 a.m.
Eighteen teams are vying for a chance to win at the tournament title including, Boston University, Charleston Southern, the College of Charleston, Dartmouth, Illinois State, Jacksonville, James Madison, Morehead State, North Florida, Old Dominion, Richmond, Rollins, Samford, St. John's, Tennessee Tech, Wichita State, and William & Mary.
Last season, senior Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) shot a 68 on the Pinehurst No. 6course, which is one shot behind the record for the lowest round at the Pinehurst Challenge.
