McCormick Added to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

April 11, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sophomore attacker Maggie McCormick (Eldersburg, Md.) of the seventh-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team has been added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, the foundation announced Thursday. The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female U.S. lacrosse player across all three NCAA divisions.

During her sophomore season, McCormick has been an offensive force for the Nittany Lions. The Eldersburg, Md., native paces Penn State in goals (28), assists (22) and points (50) and ranks among the nation's top 30 players in points per game (4.18) and assists.

The attacker has recorded at least one point in all 12 games this season and notched her 100th career point after securing a pair of assists against Drexel March 22. In a Nittany Lion victory against James Madison March 6, McCormick scored a career-high six goals and matched her career-best eight points.

The sophomore, who joins midfielder Tatum Coffey (Toms River, N.J.) on the watch list, is just one goal away from matching her 2012 total and has added seven ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.

The Tewaaraton Award is presented by the University Club of the City of Washington D.C. The selection committees are made of top collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

The lists will be narrowed to 25 men's and women's nominees April 26 at an event at the University Club of Washington, D.C. The five men's and women's finalists will be announced May 9, while the ceremony will be held May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.

The Nittany Lions will return to action Sunday, April 14 when they welcome Ohio State to the Penn State Lacrosse Field. The Senior Day matchup is set for 1:05 p.m.
