Lions Tied for Eighth After Day One at Hawkeye Invitational

Day 1 Results

The Penn State men's golf team is tied for eighth with Notre Dame and Iowa State after two rounds at the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational at the Finkbine Golf Course, shooting a 602 (309-293) on the day.

Senior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) leads the Nittany Lions, sitting tied for 17th with a 4-over-par 148 (76-72), which included nine birdies. Just two strokes behind DeGol is sophomore Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.), who ranks tied for 27th after 36 holes of play.

Senior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W. Va.) marked a 151 on the day, shooting an 80 and 71 in rounds one and two, respectively. Woodward made five birdies and is currently tied for 31st overall, while sophomore Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) is tied for 45th with his 154 tally.

Rounding out Nittany Lion scores on day one of the tournament was freshman Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.), who posted an 80 in round one and a 74 in round two to total a 155.

Kansas leads all teams at the Hawkeye Invitational, shooting a par 576 (286-290). Individually, it is Kansas' Stan Gautier and Minnesota's Alex Gaugert who are tied for first, both marking a 5-under-par 139.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday morning with a shotgun start.
