Men's Golf Finishes Ninth at Hawkeye Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Nittany Lion men's golf squad finished the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational in ninth place, posting a team score of 899 (309-293-297) at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.

Senior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) made par in the last round of the tournament, finishing tied-for-11th overall with his 220 total. Sophomore Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) shot a 74-76-74 across three rounds, tallying a score of 224 and ranking tied-for-26th individually.

Senior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W. Va) marked 76 on the final day of play, bringing his score to a 227 which earned him a 36th place finish. Sophomore Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) finished tied-for-41st, shooting a 229 through 54 holes at the Finkbine course.

Freshman Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) rounded out the Nittany Lion competitors, shooting a 231 and finishing tied-for-49th on the individual leaderboard.

Kansas never relinquished their lead as they captured the Hawkeye Invitational crown, shooting a 3-over-par team score of 867 - just one stroke ahead of host team Iowa. Chris Gilbert of Kansas and Steven Ihm of Iowa shared the first place individual honor, both posting a 5-under-par 211.

The Penn State men's golf team will conclude their regular spring season when they host the Rutherford Intercollegiate April 20-21 at the Penn State Blue Course in University Park, Pa.
