Nittany Lions Finish 11th at Big Ten Championships

The Penn State men's golf team concluded their 2012-13 season at the Big Ten Championships Sunday, finishing in 11th place overall with a four-round score of 1224 (317-297-301-309).

Freshman Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) finished tied-for-30th individually, shooting a 15-over-par 303 at the Pete Dye Course. Sophomore Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway park, N.Y.) tallied a 79 in the final round, making his 72-hole total a 305.

Senior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) wrapped up his career as a Nittany Lion, shooting a 307 and finishing tied-for-37th overall. Freshman JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) marked a 76 in the final round of play, bringing his total score to a 309 with a tied-for-43rd finish. Senior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W. Va) finished in 60th place with a score of 330.

Illinois never relinquished their lead and captured their fifth straight Big Ten Championship title, shooting an 11-over-par team total of 1163. One of Illinois' own also earned the first place individual crown. Thomas Pieters shot an impressive 4-under-par 284 (70-70-70-74) after four rounds of play.
