UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Former Penn State Nittany Lion women's soccer standout Erin McNulty has been selected as the W-League Pro-Am Player of the Week after leading the Seattle Sounders to a 2-0-1 record last week. McNulty is not the only Penn State graduate to find success at the professional level with several former Nittany Lions serving as solid contributors in the National Women's Soccer League.
McNulty tallied seven saves, including one key stop in the final minute, as the Sounders topped Los Angeles on June 5. She then added nine saves in a 2-1 win over Santa Clara on June 7, before ending the week with six stops in a scoreless tie with Pali on June 9.
A quartet of Nittany Lions are on the Boston Breakers roster in Katie Schoepfer, Joanna Lohman, Maddy Evans and Alyssa Naeher. Schoepfer and Lohman have each started nine games for the Breakers. Schoepfer has a pair of goals on 16 shots, while Lohman has netted one shot. Evans made her professional debut for the Boston Breakers last week and saw 43 minutes of action. Naeher will be joining the Breakers from the German powerhouse 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, pending league approval.
Additionally, Christine Nairn has started all nine games for the Seattle Reign with one goal and one assist on the year. Ali Krieger has bounced back from a knee injury that kept her out of the 2012 Olympics to start eight games for the Washington Spirit with one goal as a midfielder.
The Chicago Red Stars also have a pair of Penn Staters with Erin McLeod and Carmelina Moscato on the roster. McLeod has started six games en route to a 1-3-2 record. She's recorded 30 saves with a 1.667 goals against average and one shutout. Moscato started four of her five appearances this season in her defensive role.
