OSHAWA, Ontario - Penn State women's lacrosse alumnae Katie Guy ('13) helped the Canadian National Team to the silver medal at the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario.
Guy - one of two Canadians named to the All-World Team - helped Team Canada capture its second straight medal at the FIL World Cup. Prior to winning bronze at the 2009 event, Canada claimed its first World Cup medal in 1982 (bronze).
Canada completed the tournament at 5-2 with both defeats coming at the hands of Team USA. Team Canada, which finished 3-1 in pool play, topped Israel, 17-5, in the quarterfinals and Australia, 11-7, in the semifinals before falling in the gold-medal game by a 19-5 margin.
At the World Cup, Guy appeared in all seven games and led Canada with 12 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. The defender also registered nine draw controls, while collecting two points (1g, 1a).
A four-year Nittany Lion and team tri-captain as a senior, Guy helped lead Penn State to its second straight NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 2013. A defensive stalwart, Guy set career highs in draw controls (49), ground balls (46) and caused turnovers (42) as Penn State captured a share of its first American Lacrosse Conference regular-season championship.
For her career, Guy corralled 103 draw controls, 88 ground balls and 64 caused turnovers. The former standout also added 13 points (10g, 3a) and earned either Academic All-Big Ten or ALC Academic Honor Roll laurels in each of her four seasons.
