UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The U.S. women's national field hockey team will be coming to Penn State on Wednesday, July 24 for three weeks of training. The arrival will mark the second time the squad has used Penn State facilities to train in program history.
The team will train weekdays from 9:30-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. followed by open play from 4-6 p.m. The training sessions and open play sessions are open to the public. All times and days are tentative and subject to change.
Penn State junior Laura Gebhart will join the team in training upon return from the U-21 Junior World Cup in Monchengladbach, Germany. Gebhart was recently named the captain of the World Cup squad, which will begin the tournament on Saturday, July 27 against Korea at 5:30 a.m. EST. The tournament ends with the championship match on Sunday, August 4.
The Penn State midfielder was named to the U.S. women's national team earlier this year in May, becoming the 15th Nittany Lion to play on the national squad. Former Nittany Lions who earned spots on the national team are Barb Doran, Candy Finn, Jeannie Fissinger, Chris Larson, Charlene Morett, Jan Snyder, Brenda Stauffer, Michele Brennan, Jen Stewart, Eleanor Stone, Becca Main, Tara Maguire, Tracey Larson and Maegan Galie.
