UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's hockey team will have at least 10 games televised to a national audience, including seven games on BTN, during the 2013-14 season, the Big Ten Conference announced Monday.
The Nittany Lions will appear on BTN, which is available to more than 75 million homes throughout the United States and Canada, six times during the regular season and at least once during the Big Ten tournament. Penn State will play on national television at least three additional times with contests on either ESPNU or ESPNEWS.
Fans will have the opportunity to watch the Nittany Lions' historic first game at Pegula Ice Arena Friday, Oct. 11 on the BTN. In the matchup, Penn State will face off against Army at 8 p.m.
BTN will also broadcast Nittany Lion home matchups against Minnesota Monday, Jan. 13 (time to be determined) and Michigan State (Friday, Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m.). Penn State's game against the Gophers is during the Nittany Lions' Big Ten home-opening series.
Penn State also will have three road contests broadcast on BTN, beginning with a matchup against the Spartans Friday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Nittany Lion away games against Michigan Feb. 21 (6:30 p.m.) and Minnesota Friday, Feb. 28 (9 p.m.) also will appear on the network.
ESPNU will broadcast the Nittany Lions' home matchup against Michigan (Feb. 8 at 5 p.m.), while ESPNEWS will air Penn State's home game against Michigan State Feb. 15 (3:30 p.m.) and a road contest against Ohio State Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.
Additionally, Penn State's matchup at Michigan Saturday, Feb. 22 is scheduled to air regionally on Fox Sports Detroit Plus at 7 p.m.
The Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Championship will be played March 20-22 at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn. All three rounds will appear on BTN.
In 2013-14, head coach Guy Gadowsky welcomes back 18 returning letterwinners, as well as nine newcomers, as the Nittany Lions join the Big Ten for the league's first season. Penn State, who returns its top 13 point producers and nearly 94 percent of the team's scoring, also boast four NHL draft picks on the roster, including juniors Max Gardiner (Deephaven, Minn.) and Patrick Koudys (Smithville, Ont.) and freshmen Eamon McAdam (Perkasie, Pa.) and Mike Williamson (Leduc, Alta.).
