UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State's Big Ten Conference opener at Indiana will kick at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 5. BTN will televise the contest to a national audience from Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.
The Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUsports.com will begin coverage of the Penn State-Indiana game at 10:30 a.m. ET.
Penn State and Indiana will be meeting for the 17th time and have played every season since 2007. The teams previously met in the Big Ten opener in 1999 and 2011. The Nittany Lions and Hoosiers have been division rivals since 2011 and will be in the Big Ten's Eastern Division starting next year and continue to play annually.
The Nittany Lions have a 16-0 on-field mark vs. Indiana, including a 45-22 win last year in Beaver Stadium. The last three games in Bloomington have been decided by six points or less: 22-18 (2004), 36-31 (2007) and 16-10 (2011).
The Nittany Lions are starting their 21st season of Big Ten competition. Penn State will be opening conference play on the road for the fourth consecutive year and 13th time overall and will open the 2014 Big Ten slate at Rutgers (Sept. 13) in the Scarlet Knights' first Big Ten game.
The announcement of the Indiana kick brings the total of known Penn State start times to seven for this season. Following a bye on Sept. 28, the Nittany Lions will visit Indiana and then host Michigan on Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. for the 94th Homecoming game, which will air on ESPN or ESPN2. Penn State will visit Ohio State on Oct. 26 for an 8 p.m. clash that will air on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
The remaining five Penn State kick times and TV information will occur within the Big Ten's 6 or 12 day selection process.
Penn State will be making its fourth appearance of the season on BTN. Every Nittany Lion football game has been televised the past 10 seasons and 232 of the last 234 Penn State contests overall have been on TV. The Big Ten Network is available to more than 90 million homes through agreements with more than 300 cable, satellite and telco providers in all 50 states and Canada. Armstrong, Blue Ridge and Adams Cable, though, do not carry the BTN in Pennsylvania and the Medina and Youngstown, Ohio areas. More than 35,000 Penn State alumni live in the communities served by the three cable providers in Pennsylvania and the Medina and Youngstown areas, in addition to thousands of more fans and current Penn State students.
Armstrong, Blue Ridge and Adams Cable customers missed more than 110 Penn State events on BTN during the 2012-13 academic year, in addition to coverage from 15 conference championships.
Coach Bill O'Brien's Nittany Lions improved to 3-1 with a 34-0 win over Kent State last Saturday. Penn State allowed only nine first downs and 190 yards, posting its first shutout since 2010. The Nittany Lions ran for 287 yards, their highest total since gaining 338 yards at Illinois in 2009, led by Akeel Lynch with a season-high 123 yards on just 14 carries.
