Men's Golf Tied-for-Seventh After Two Rounds at Gopher Invitational

Gopher Invitational Day One

The Penn State men's golf team is currently tied-for-seventh place with Notre Dame after 36 holes of play at the Gopher Invitational. The Nittany Lions shot a 581 two-round total, marking a 292 and 289 in rounds one and two, respectively.

Sophomore JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) matched his career-low mark of 69 in the first round, followed by a 72 to total a 1-under 141 on the day. Dornes is tied-for-eighth going into the final round of competition Monday.

Sophomore Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) is tied-for-21st with a 146 (74-72), while the junior pair of Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) and Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) are one stroke behind Houston. Both tallied a 147 and sit tied-for-27th on the individual leaderboard.

Sophomore Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) posted a 161 throughout the first two rounds Sunday.

New Mexico holds the first place position going into the final round of the Gopher Invitational, leading Kent State by three strokes with a 565 total. Nick Voke of Iowa State and Corey Conners of Kent State currently lead all players, tied-for-first with 5-under 137 marks.
