NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lion men's soccer team earned its first national ranking, No. 17, in the latest NSCNAA/Continental Tire poll released on Tuesday. Penn State is one of three big Ten squads in the poll including this week's opponent, No. 14 Michigan State.
Penn State (8-3-1, 3-0-0 Big Ten) is ranked for the first time since the week of Sept. 25, 2012 when the Nittany Lions climbed to 20th. Penn State earned 152 votes from the 23 voters, while California retains its spot atop the poll. Penn State and Cal played to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 13 at Jeffrey Field.
Other Nittany Lion foes in the poll include the aforementioned Michigan State, who PSU plays on Sunday in East Lansing, No. 16 Northwestern (Oct. 27) and No. 23 Akron (Nov. 6). Saint Francis (Pa.), St. John's and Wisconsin all received votes this week.
On Monday, Penn State was rated 15th by the NCAA RPI through games played by Oct. 13. The Nittany Lions are 6-1-1 in their past eight matches.
