Women's Tennis Finishes Second Day at Bulldog Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -

The Nittany Lions women's tennis team won two matches in the second day of competition at the Bulldog Invitational. Carmen Sandor (Toronto, Canada) was victorious in singles play against Boston College and teamed with Samantha Tutelman (New York, N.Y.) to win in doubles against Brown.

The Nittany Lions began the day in singles competing against Boston College. The Eagles got off to a hot start winning the first three matches of the flight. Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Fla.) fell to Jessica Wacnik, 6-3, 6-3 and Lexi Borr topped Tutelman 6-3, 6-2. Marie-Frederique Bedard (Montreal, Canada) fell to Katya Vasilyev in the No. 3 position, 6-3, 7-5.

Sandor gave Penn State their first win on the day knocking off Wan-Yi Sweeting in the No. 4 spot. After winning the first set tiebreaker, Sandor won the second set to win the match, 7-6 (5), 6-1. Boston College to the final match with Emily Safron topping Katherine Whiteaway (Sawbridgeworth, England), 6-2, 6-2.

Penn State was back in action in the afternoon slate taking on Brown in doubles matches. Chelsea Utting (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Zuhse started things off against Hannah Camhi and Dayna Lord but couldn't come away with the victory falling, 8-4.

Sandor and Tutelman evened the flight at one match a piece when the bested Sarah Kandath and Ammu Mandalap when the Brown duo retired with the Nittany Lions up 6-2. Brown's Mariska Chamdani and Nikita Uberoi ended the day knocking off Bedard and Whiteaway, 8-1.

Following two days of play at Yale, Tutelman has a team-high six points in singles competition with Bedard and Sandor close behind with five each. In doubles Utting and Zuhse lead the team with a win in the top spot yesterday while Sandor and Tutelman took No. 2 position points today to trail by one. The Nittany Lions will conclude play at the Bulldog Invite tomorrow when they compete against Dartmouth in doubles at noon following with singles competition against Brown.
