UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No.22 Penn State women's soccer team has earned the No. 3 seed for the Big Ten Tournament, which will be hosted by Illinois. The Nittany Lions will face the sixth-seeded Wisconsin Badgers in the first match of the tournament at 11:30 a.m. (ET) on Wednesday morning.
Penn State (13-5-1 overall) finished the season third in the conference standings with a record of 7-4-0 (21 points) while the Badgers (10-6-2 overall) tied for fifth with Iowa and Illinois after posting 5-5-1 record against league opponents (16 points).
The Blue and White are 17-3-4 against UW all-time and 2-1-1 against the Badgers in the conference tournament. They defeated the then-No. 18 Badgers by a count of 2-1 earlier this season. Wednesday's meeting will be just the third neutral site match-up between the two teams and the first since the 1999 Big Ten Tournament, when PSU overpowered Wisconsin 3-0.
Head coach Erica Walsh, who is in her seventh season at the helm, led Penn State to a Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2008 and owns a 7-2-1 record in the tournament.
Nebraska won the Big Ten regular season championship, earning the No. 1 seed in the tournament with a 10-1-0 (30 points) conference record. The Huskers will match up against No. 8 Minnesota on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The No. 2 Michigan Wolverines will meet No. 7 Iowa at 2:30 p.m. and No. 4 Indiana will go up against No. 5 Illinois at 8:30 p.m. All four matches will be streamed live online via the Big Ten Digital Network.
Friday's semifinal matches are set for 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., while Sunday's championship game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start. The semifinal and championship matches will be aired live on the Big Ten Network and will also be available on BTN2Go. The winner of the Big Ten Tournament will receive the Big Ten's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Tickets can be purchased on game day at the ticket window outside the northwest corner of the Illinois Soccer Stadium. All-Session passes will be available for $25 for the three-day tournament, while Single Day passes are $10 for adults and $5 for youth.
