SERIES: Penn State and Purdue have met 16 times prior to today, with Penn State owning a 12-3-1 on-field advantage in the series. This is the third straight season that the two teams have met, with the next scheduled meeting coming at Purdue in 2016.
The teams first met in 1951 when Penn State dropped a 28-0 decision at Purdue. The Boilermakers and Nittany Lions played to a 20-20 tie in 1952, but didn't meet again until they met in 1995 as conference opponents.
With today's meeting, the two teams have met in 15 of Penn State's 21 years in the Big Ten, with the Lions owning a 12-2 on-field record in conference play.

The Nittany Lions are 6-1 in games following a loss under Coach Bill O'Brien, with the only consecutive losses coming when the 2012 team began the season 0-2.
Penn State owns a 12-3-1 on-field record against Purdue, with the first meeting in 1951, and has won six straight meetings with the Boilermakers, including a 34-9 decision at Ross-Ade Stadium last year. The Nittany Lions are 6-1-1 against the Boilermakers at home, with the two teams meeting for the 15th time in Penn State's 21 seasons in the Big Ten.
Allen Robinson's seven catches for 63 yards at Minnesota pushed the junior wideout into first on the school single season receiving yards list with 1,106 yards, passing Bobby Engram's 1,084 yards in 1995. Robinson leads the Big Ten in receptions (8.1 rpg) and receiving yards per game (122.9), ranking 9th and third, respectively, in the NCAA.
True freshman quarterback Christian Hackenberg is among the top Big Ten signal callers, ranking second conference in completions (178) and passing yards (243.0 ypg). He is also tied for eighth in touchdown passes (13). Hackenberg has six 200-yard passing games this year to break to Penn State freshman record.
The game will match the only two true freshmen starting quarterbacks in the Big Ten. Danny Etling has started the last four games and is 75-of-156 passing for 819 yards (163 ypg), with four touchdowns and five intercpetions.Running back Akeem Hunt ranks sixth in the Big Ten in all-purpose yards at 120.1 yards per game. Cornerback Ricardo Allen has intercepted three passes for the Boilermaker defense and Anthony Brown paces the squad with 51 tackles.
