UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State junior Allen Robinson (Southfield, Mich.), has been selected a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the college football's premier receiver.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc. sponsors the Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Former Nittany Lion first-team All-American Bobby Engram was the recipient of the inaugural Biletnikoff Award in 1994.
The 2012 Big Ten Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year, Robinson is among 10 semifinalists for the 2013 Biletnikoff Award. The record-setting Robinson is the only player from a Big Ten institution on the semifinalist list.
The three Biletnikoff Award finalists will be announced on Monday, Nov. 25. The Biletnikoff Award winner will be announced live on ESPN's The Home Depot College Football Awards Show at 7 p.m. on December 12.
Robinson leads the Big Ten and is ranked in the top 10 nationally in receptions (81, 8.1 avg., 3rd in nation) and receiving yardage (1,204; 120.4 ypg, 9th in nation). The 2013 mid-season All-American broke his own Penn State single season receptions record (77, 2012) by making eight catches for 98 yards in last Saturday's 45-21 win over Purdue. Robinson, who has six touchdown catches this season and 17 in his career, also increased his school single-season yardage record to 1,204 yards with two games to play.
Robinson's production in the Nittany Lions' six Big Ten games this season has surpassed his overall season averages, as he has made 55 catches (9.2 avg.) for 756 yards (126.0 ypg) in conference play. The vastly talented and athletic Robinson has made 11 catches of 35 yards or longer this season, including four touchdowns of 45 yards or longer for Coach Bill O'Brien's squad.
A football and basketball standout at Orchard Lake St. Mary's prep, Robinson owns the top two Penn State season receptions marks (81 and 77) and the No. 1 and 4 season receiving yardage marks (1,013 in 2012), with Engram holding the No. 2-3 spots.
Robinson, who made three catches for 29 yards as a freshman in 2011, has gained 2,246 yards on 161 catches in his career, ranking fourth and tied for third (with Derrick Williams), respectively, on the Penn State career receiving charts.
Fans will help determine which three receivers will advance as Biletnikoff Award finalists. Fans can vote once daily at biletnikoffaward.com. Fan voting will close on November 24.
The top three aggregate fan votes for receiver will each count as the equivalent of one national selection committee vote for each of those three receivers for finalists. Following the finalists' selection, the subsequent top single aggregate fan vote for receiver will count as the equivalent of one national selection committee vote for winner.
The 2013 Biletnikoff Award winner will receive the Biletnikoff Award Trophy and the custom designed Biletnikoff Award winner's ring before 600 patrons at the annual Biletnikoff Award Banquet at the University Center Club at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday, February 8, 2014, and will be live streamed on ESPN3.
The Nittany Lions close the home schedule with Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 23, hosting Nebraska at 3:30 p.m. Sixteen Penn State seniors will be introduced to the Beaver Stadium faithful in a pre-game ceremony. The fifth-year seniors have helped Penn State earn 41 on-field wins during their careers.
Tickets for the Nebraska game are available using the Beaver Stadium Interactive Seat Map at GoPSUsports.com/tickets, calling 1-800-NITTANY (weekdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.), or visiting the Jordan Center ticket office (weekdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.).
Penn State students can purchase a pair of tickets for the Senior Day game at a special price - up to two tickets for $40 each -- with their valid student ID. Students from all Penn State campuses and the World Campus are able to buy two tickets for the Nebraska game in advance by calling 1-800-NITTANY or in-person at the Beaver Stadium ticket office (weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). This special student ticket offer also is available on gameday at the Beaver Stadium ticket office starting four hours prior to kickoff (11:30 a.m.).
The seats for this special student ticket offer will not be located in the 21,000-seat student section in Beaver Stadium.
