University Park, Pa. - In light of the annual Penn State Garret Open being canceled, many of the Penn State fencers are heading to Cleveland, Ohio to compete in the North American Cup this weekend. The North American Cup is a national fencing competition and counts towards national rankings.
The Penn State fencers leave Friday, November 8th and spend the weekend competing in Cleveland and return on November 11th.
Representing Penn State in men's epee will be freshman Spencer Amann (Westminster, Colo.), senior Benjamin Freiman (The Woodlands, Texas), junior Maxwell Kleeman (Los Angeles, Calif.), sophomore Yasser Mahmoud (Quincy, Mass.), freshman Conor Shepard (Colleyville, Texas), and freshman Oskar Tang (Stockholm, Sweden).
Competing in men's foil will be sophomore Nobuo Bravo (San Francisco, Calif.), freshman Howie Chan (Hong Kong), senior Gianni Di Cioccio (New York, N.Y.), freshman Nicolas Graziano (Brooklyn, N.Y.), senior Jeremy Goldstein (Westpor, Conn.), junior David Gomez-Tanamachi (Mexico City, Mexico), and senior captain David Willette (Lafayette, Calif.).
Competing in men's saber will be freshman David Akrami (Plano, Texas), senior Adrian Bak (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), freshman David Filteau (Denver, Colo.), freshman Adam Lewicki (Oakland, N.J.), junior Sean Moran (Beaverton, Ore.), junior Pawel Puchalski (Lake Forest, Ill.), junior Alex Schneller (Billerica, Mass.), and sophomore Kaito Streets (Redwood City, Calif.).
The women's team will also participate in the North American Cup this weekend. Representing Penn State in women's epee will be freshman Jessie Radanovich (Frisco, Calif.), Magherita Guzzi-Vincenti, sophomore Jessica O'Neil-Lyublinski (North Salem, N.Y.), and freshman Sarah Waller (McKinney, Texas).
Competing in women's foil will be junior Alina Antokhina (Moscow, Russia), freshman Elana Dickman (Denville, N.J.), sophomore Clarisse Luminet (Lyon, France), freshman Desree Ortega-Furgeson (Wyoming, Mich.) and freshman Daniella Ortiz (Bayside, N.Y.).
Lastly, representing Penn State in women's saber will be senior captain Nicole Glon (State College, Pa.) and freshman Teodara Kakhiani (Tbilisi, Geogia).
