Men's Fencing Topples All Five Schools at Sacred Heart University Meet

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -

Penn State Fencing Team Stats

The Penn State fencers had an impressive weekend in Fairfield, Conn. Both the men's and women's team had a great showing from all competing Nittany Lion fencers.

The men's team walked away with wins against all five schools at the meet. Penn State beat NYU 23-4, Sacred Heart University 19-8, Vassar University 25-2, Harvard University 15-12, and Princeton University 20-7.

The individual results are below as followed.

In men's epee event, freshman Conor Shepard (Colleyville, Texas) had a stand out meet finishing the weekend with ten wins and two losses.

In men's foil event, senior captain David Willette (Lafayette, Calif.) went undefeated 7-0 against his competition. Other notable finishes in men's foil include sophomore Nobuo Bravo (San Francisco, Calif) who went 11-1 and junior David Gomez-Tanamachi (Mexico City, Mexico) who finished 6-1.

Penn State saw great competition from fencers (Redwood City, Calif.) Kaito Streets and (Lake Forrest, Ill.) Pawel Puchalski who both finished 9-1 in the men's saber.

The women's team managed three wins from the five participating schools at the meet. Penn State beat NYU 24-3, Sacred Heart University 21-6, and Vassar University 22-5. The women's team fell to Harvard 11-16 and Princeton 8-9.

Freshman Jessie Radanovich (Frisco, Calif.) finished strong in the women's epee event with twelve wins and three losses.

Sophomore Clarisse Luminet (Lyon, France) completed the weekend with ten wins and two losses in the women's foil event. Other notable finishes include freshman Desree Ortega-Furgeson (Wyoming, Mich.) who went undefeated with four wins against NYU, Sacred Heart, and Vassar and Junior Alina Antokhina (Moscow, Russia) who finished 8-3.

In the women's saber event, two fencers had impressive finishes. Sophomore Brianne Cavaliere (Wayne, N.J.) finished 6-2 and graduate student Heather Nelson (Albany, N.Y.) finished 7-3.

Select fencers will head to the Junior World Cup Jan. 4, 2014 held in Udine, Italy and the squad then hosts the Penn State Invitational on Sunday, January 12th, 2014 held here at Penn State University in University Park, Pa.
