GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands - Penn State women's soccer freshman Brittany Basinger (Purcellville, Va.) scored the third goal of the game and sophomore Mallory Weber (Novi, Mich.) added goals eight and nine on Monday night as the U.S. U-20 National Team defeated Guatemala, 10-0, to complete a perfect run through Group A play in the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. The Americans defeated Jamaica, 3-0, last Saturday and Costa Rica, 5-0, last Thursday, extending their winning streak in the tournament to 13-straight matches.
The U.S. squad will face either Mexico or Trinidad in the semifinals, which kick off on Friday at 7 p.m. (ET) on FOX Soccer 2GO. Costa Rica, the Group A runner-up, will also compete in the semifinals.
Basinger started all three matches for the U.S. squad, logging over 200 minutes on defense, and notched her first international goal in Monday's match vs. Guatemala. The Purcellville, Va. native rebounded a shot from UConn's Rachel Hill and sent the ball sailing into the goal from the left side in the 31st minute of action to give the U.S. a 3-0 advantage.
Weber earned her first cap with the U-20 team on Monday night, entering the match at the start of the second half. The PSU sophomore was sure to make her presence known as she earned an assist on a goal from Boston College forward McKenzie Meehan before netting her first and second international goals - all in a span of 11 minutes.
A victory in Friday's semifinal match would secure the U.S. a spot in the championship match as well as a berth to the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Canada. The losing team from each semifinal match will meet in a third-place match on Sunday to determine which nation will earn the final CONCACAF bid for 2014 World Cup.
