2014 Nittany Lion Challenge Heat Sheets
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -
The Penn State track and field squads are looking to continue their strong start on Saturday when they host the Nittany Lion Challenge at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track. The first event, the women's weight throw, will begin at 11:00 a.m. This year's field will include Cornell, Georgetown, Iowa State, Miami (Fla.), Ohio State, Pittsburgh, and South Florida.
Last weekend's Penn State Relays was a successful outing all-around, highlighted by the women's 4x200 relay. The team of redshirt-senior Mahagony Jones (Cleveland, Ohio), junior Dynasty McGee (Flint, Mich.), freshman Megan Osborne (Chillicothe, Ohio) and sophomore Kiah Seymour (Washington, D.C.) set a meet, facility, Penn State and collegiate record, finishing in 1:35.65.
The record-setting relay team, according to director and head coach Beth Alford-Sullivan, will not attempt another record in that event this weekend. However, the four women will be recognized for their accomplishment.
"We won't be racing that event," said Alford-Sullivan. "But, we will be honoring those ladies. We'll be honoring those ladies and giving them some recognition right before the events start."
Alford-Sullivan is expecting high quality performances in distance running, and not just from her squad.
Junior Robby Creese (Mount Airy, Md) looks to break his own collegiate record (2:19.53) in the 1000 meter run this weekend.
Additionally, returning All-American Brannon Kidder (Lancaster, Ohio) is going to be running in the 800 meter.

"As a freshman, Brannon was third in the country. This is his signature event so we're looking forward to it," said Alford-Sullivan. "We've got some great competition coming in. Iowa State has a tremendous 800 meter runner and Georgetown also has some great competition in there."
"The men's 4x400 at the end of the competition should be something that should be pretty special as well," said Alford-Sullivan.
Alford-Sullivan is just as optimistic about the women's team after a strong opening performance.
"Evonne Britton opened the hurdles extremely sharp. She's a redshirt-senior this year and looks really good. That's one I would pay attention to," said Alford-Sullivan.
The Nittany Lions indoor season continues next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, when they host the Penn State National.
